A trainer has to win games. A manager has to meet corporate objectives. Neither of them can do it alone, they need their teams.

So far, Ed’s first management book was published in Dutch, Spanish and English. The book is titled:

“The Perfect Pass: what the manager can learn from the footbal trainer”

In The perfect pass, Ed Weenk uses football as a metaphor for the job of the manager and the way their organizations work. The book goes beyond the typical examples of motivation and teambuilding, as it addresses a large number of concepts which are relevant for companies and their competitiveness. The world of football enables doing this in a very accessible and entertaining way.

Success is achieved with lots and lots of hard work, aligned and coherent with the overall strategic vision. This might seem very simple, but as Johan Cruyff already said long ago: «simple is the most difficult».

The Perfect Pass deals with the importance of

* seeing the BIG PICTURE,
* having good internal and external ALIGNMENT and
* achieving COHERENCE at all levels.

The objective of the book is to provide some simple and easy to understand reflections that anyone in an organisation can apply in a reasonably short timeframe, allowing them quickly to get a good understanding of the big picture of an organisation and the direction it wants to go. Having established this broader vision, we can then evaluate if it’s actually fit for getting there in the best possible way, in terms of internal alignment and coherence of people, infrastructure and processes.

We are currently piloting a new 2-day highly interactive workshop format, based on the 17 reflections and almost 80 supporting questions that appear in the book. The workshop format is targeted at management teams and/or complete departments. In the intensive 2-day workshop all the elements from “preparing the season” all the way down to “post-game evaluation” will be treated. At the end, the final delivery will be a concrete, tangible and realistic action plan for the implementation of the identified improvements.
